The rule was that if a waiver was granted, that the player could not participate in DA activities while on waiver playing HS. So, for a Spring HS season, the kid would be unavailable for DA games for that entire season. Did that change?

I don't see a problem with a kid deciding to give up their DA programming if they want to play for their HS, as long as the club can manage their absence. I don't think this is a private vs public school issue, other than if one gets a sports scholarship to a private school, that's a big deal for that family and understandable if they are placed in an awkward position as a result.

It's not a class thing; they may be a poorer family with a really good player who has gotten into a great prep school on virtue of their athletic abilities. Nothing wrong with that at all. It seems to be what many parents here are trying to do with their DCs in the various elite soccer options.

Is it hard to get a waiver or is it just uncommon among the 3 girls DA teams in VA? Your comment suggests that latter, as in few girls send the formal waiver request to the League Office. The former would be the situation in which a dozen girls, for example, submit the formal waiver to the League Office, but the League Office only grants 1 waiver.

In our experience on the boys’ side, waivers are uncommon to submit, but if submitted, not hard to get from the League Office.

You are just wrong. It is not easy to get a waiver. None of the 3 da clubs give them. At ,east for girls.

I would just add -- there can be no high school sports scholarships in any state. Any such action would disqualify, the kid, coach and school. Do kids attend private schools on scholarships and also play sports? Sure. But, any direct tie would be a quick disqualification and lead to sanctions.

Let’s just put it this way: if a kid at a private school wants to play for the HS team and also plays DA, it is not hard to get the waiver. That’s not an option for the public school kids.

In fairness though, a lot of DA kids are fine not seeking the waiver to play high school soccer.

Yep. A friend left DA to play for DeMatha. And there are some hood Baltimore club teams that exist because the kids play for their Catholic HS instead of DA.

Only waivers I am aware of is for kids where the HS school gave kid an athletic scholarship to attend the HS based on the prospect that kid would play soccer for the HS.

Is it true that if you accept a DA slot, you cannot also play on your high school team? I’m new to this, so just trying to figure out what is allowed.
