Dsagree. Had 2 BMWs (not the x3, but nothing special IMO).

Now on our 2nd Q5. Love it.

The newer Audi models all feel like VW parts bin cars.

A Q8 starts at $70k and is supposed to be their Range Rover Sport/BMW X6 competitor yet the dashboard is still nasty plastic.

VW makes all its profit off of Audi and I HATE that...that being said I am in the market for a Q7 (Q5 too small).

The X3 is really small (IMO)...I would go for the new RDX over that. It is redesigned this year and really nice.

I would go with an X5 or the Q5.

I would be in on the BMW X7 if it was not the first year of the car.

My 2018 Q5 Prestige is absolutely rock solid. Love love love it. But part of what i love are the tech features you can get with the Prestige trim (HUD, top-view camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, red-light countdown).

I like that not all the cabin controls have been replaced with touch screen. Much easier (and safer) IMO to use dials and physical buttons to adjust climate control system.

The only demerit: you have to spring for the highest trim level to get safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, which are now common on much more affordable alternatives (e.g., Honda Crv).


I got all of those in the Acura for $15k less, plus a better tech interface. But if you care about the badge audi is the way to go.

The Audi drives soooo much better than the VW. I had a Q7 that was totaled and now an Atlas. The Atlas has more room and a better inside layout, but can't begin to compare the drive.

I've driven but not owned either.

I thought the X3 was just the slightest bit more cramped. I really disliked the interface that controls all the bells and whistles. If I recall correctly, there were three different ways I could change the volume of the radio. The ride in the X3 was more true to the ride in the 3-series sedan, which is one of BMW's strengths.

The Q5 felt just the slightest bit less luxurious. It's pretty consistent with how I've felt riding in A3s and A5s -- VW Jettas/Passats with a little more candy?

Just my thoughts...
