Dallas Cup? Or something at ESPN in Florida? I wouldn't send my U11 player to an event like that without some understanding about playing time. And I would also question why a U11 team needs to invest that kind of travel at that age. Your overzealous club and parents will price a lot of players out if they start this just to raise their reputation.

How are the guest players allowed to play in the tournament? I am curious as to how this works in regards to player cards.
What a bizarre PR move for U11, as this is overkill for that age group.

100 % agree. I've seen a lot of BS in my time in youth soccer, but this is a whole other level. Any coach who is so intent on winning - at U freaking 11! - that he would pull something like this shouldn't be coaching.

You should run from that club as soon as possible.

One other thing though. I wonder how it's even possible. Even guest players need to be carded, either by USYSA or US Club, depending on what the rest of the team is.

I'm not going to ask you to name and shame the club, but can you tell us which tournament this is?

FWIW, we never let him skip; he plays when sick; etc. So, I think team player part is sort of covered.

If Club wants to badly to win this tournament, or place highly, and has a keeper from 3k miles away, I am disposed to let them play this visiting kid the whole game. But, if I am being gracious not demanding playing time, then attending for injury contingency to me is a little far fetched. I am sure it happens, but I've never seen a keeper at that age injured off the field.

Does ds also play a field position? also I would tell the club to refund your portion of the club fee for that particular tourney.Or maybe tell the club your ok with splitting 1/2 the game with the guest player but not giving up your sons entire time at GK for a pr move for the club. your son earned that spot let him reap the benefits of winning the staring job

It's his only position; he doesn't want to go; I don't want to go. I don't mean to create rancor. I just wondered if I was being selfish by refusing the offer that he "warm up" the guest keeper.

OP, I should say it is U11 age group. Goalkeeper is part of three guest players from Europe intended to boost status of club.

DS is starting goalkeeper for a travel team.

For an important tournament, he is to be replaced as starting goalkeeper by a visiting player from Europe.

Personally, I accept Club's decision up to a point but I prefer not to attend this tournament since Club has different player.

Is consensus opinion this is OK? I just feel a three day tournament is a lot simply to watch.
