Either you are proud of this princess behavior, or you just say "sorry hon. can't do that."

What's the core issue making you feel so bothered? You generally feel she's spoiled? You're afraid she won't have the skills to function on her own? Her tone in the text was rude or not respectful?

Why not?

I really am interested in why so many parents and teens are delaying this important step into adulthood.

"You're welcome to use whatever we have in the house to make your friend cookies, but we aren't able to run to the store tonight for this. We'll let you know the next time one of us has to go to the store so that you can come along and pick up whatever you need."

OMG just pick her up and go to the store with her, maybe even bake with her.

She will be gone next year and we will hear about how much you miss her and she won’t call you.

My issue would be with the (by 6:00) time demand. I don't mind buying flour/sugar/baking soda/salt/baking powder/whatever extract/nuts/etc. if there aren't any in the house, but I can't leave work because kid wants cookies.

It's not last minute - it's not even noon.

If you are feeling kind, you can add that you are willing to take her to the store if she needs a ride and has the $ to pay for it. However, not required.

This is a vent! Our teenage princess informs us last minute she would like to make cookies for her BF (DD is 17 and has a job) and she will send us a list with the ingredients she would like to have home by 6pm. I've told DH, I have a problem with it being last minute and us paying for it. I don't think my parents would have been okay with it when I was a teenager. I remember buying my BF a Christmas gift with my own funds and not even bringing this up to them or asking for money. I was at the grocery store with her on Sunday and she said she didn't need anything....Sigh! Solution?
