MY dd lives in SF and makes 3 times that OP and still has a roommate. There is no way around it...you have to have roommates or you could be a nanny and live with the family you nanny for...you'd make more than $45k too!

Son makes slightly more than that but not much more. He lives in Oakland area with 2 roommates. Commutes to SF.

people get creative.. like renting out a bedroom in a sfh. Or move to a lower col. I used to live in the Bay Area. I moved because it was getting too expensive. Not worth the commute and hassle, imo.

People who are okay with roommates.

If you are hoping to live on your own in a field that starts at $45K, I would look outside of the Bay Area. You will get to that point much faster.

I am a recent college grad still in the bay area. Entry level pay in my field is like 45k. Maybe this seems reasonable but I cannot afford to live anywhere on that, even in my current apartment with a roommate (which I am sick to death of). What do people do? Who is able to take one of these positions?
