If they told you this, why are you asking what they meant? You tell your kid to listen when the teacher is talking.

Teachers always tell me my kid is social--she's friendly and outgoing and gets along well with most other kids. But she doesn't generally disrupt class by talking, so it's not a problem and there's nothing I need to do. It seems obvious that your kid is disrupting class and needs to learn when to be quiet.

How old is your child? is this preschool or elementary school?

If preschool, then I would assume the child is friendly, makes friends easily, is a good friend to others, is well-liked by others, and likes to play with other children (vs. wanting to play alone more often)

for elementary school, I'd assume the above BUT if a teacher were telling me, I'd wonder if that's code for "your child talks in class and its' distracting others"

so I'd ASK the teacher if that's what is happening. "What do you mean by social? Is she bothering others by chatting, or is she just friendly? Can you tell me more?"

Are they saying it in a positive, negative, or neutral way? My DD is an extrovert who likes and plays with most kids, and thrives on social interactions. On the whole, that's a positive though occasionally that can lead to her being too chatty in the classroom. I spoke to her about it, and her teacher knows how to handle.
