I never said anything about field trips. There are many other reasons I think it’s going down hill.

I agree with the poster above who said that Mt. Olivet has gone downhill.

The new director cut field trips at Mt Olivet. They bring entertainers in house now.

Sad to hear it's going downhill. My kids (now in middle school) both went there and we had a great experience. I will say weekly chapel and grace at meals was a regular part of the day even 10 years ago (which was fine with us, we're also members of the church)

Same here. My kids are even older and chapel was always part of their Mt. Olivet experience. I also found it to actually be more academic than some of the other Arlington preschools, but by that I mean that they were almost more "workbook" based in the 5s, rather than a learning through play type of environment.

Anyway, we had a fine experience at Mt. Olivet, but that was many, many years ago. I can't compare it to RLWP, as we didn't attend.

We have also been at RLWP for several years now. I agree with the above- we have been happy and I also have found the parents to be among the nicest and most laid back I have met. You didn't ask this, but I would say it's almost an even split between moms who SAH, moms who work part time, and moms who work FT, so I don't think you'll feel out of step whatever your situation.

As to your questions- I think it has been very warm and nurturing for the kids, but I appreciate that they also foster good routines and behaviors, particularly in the pre-K year. I think they balance it well. It's definitely very play based but my kids were well prepared for K. I have always found the teachers to be very accessible. In the years we have been there I think they have improved digital/email communications which is helpful. Instead of having everything be a paper signup outside the classroom or the like. Like others mentioned, they have been doing this in their current location for many years with very little staff turnover- it's been very stable. We would highly recommend as well.

Resurrection is, yes, a smaller program but absolutely phenomenal. The teachers and director are so communicative and work together lovingly, attentively, and professionally. There are regular enrichment classes in Spanish, music, and ASL, and each child and their family is valued. The school has celebrated 20 years in its current space and I can't recommend it highly enough.

+1. The parents I met there are (in general) the least type-A, most down-to-earth people I've encountered in North Arlington.

We are at Mt. Olivet. I think that it's really gone downhill in the past few years. No, the teachers do not really communicate with parents much at all. There is one really awesome teacher there, but I don't think she's happy, and I wouldn't be surprised if she was pushed out.

Don't know if this matters to you, but the preschool and the church are really trying to be more of a single unit. When we started, the preschool was just a school in the church building. Now they do Bible versus and go to chapel and really push the church thing. I think that the church is hurting and wants to convert members from the preschool families. It's pretty obvious.

It is not an academic preschool at all, and unless you do a lot of work on your own, your child will be behind classmates in K at APS. It's too late for me to switch now, but I would if my kid didn't love their friends there so much.

Also, parking is a huge PITA.

The 5s program is great though.

Wow! Thank you so much for your response.

Honestly, if it's the only place you get in. Take it. Your kid will be happy there. Just supplement when they are 4 or 5 at home.

Yes, resurrection is small but it’s in Northern Arlington.

Appreciate your honesty. Helps me so much during this lottery process!

My kids are currently waitlisted for both school but wanted to hear some personal reviews of the schools.

Highlights of the school?
Did you feel like it was a warm and nurturing environment?
How was the parent community?
Did the teachers communicate with parents often?
Something you weren’t totally happy about?

Anything would help! I can only see so much during these tours.

Thank you in advance!
