I agree that all of the schools above are excellent. I think U Minn is often overlooked in this area. I'm not sure what criteria you are using to suggest that it is "below" the other schools, particularly, Wisconsin, which is also a great school, but not appreciably different. In academics, they each have several world-renowned programs. In student body ACT 25-75 UM 26-31, UW 27-31. Just about identical.
A kid who is comfortable with a large (and cold) school could get a world-class education at either.
