The vast majority of Americans - especially Red State Republicans - can't budget for that kind of fiscal shock, sadly.
Most of these regretful voters are more than likely living in blue states. But it's hard to feel that sorry for them. They voted for a crooked businessman and got shafted.
Some, but not all. TX has very high property taxes to make up for the lack of income tax. UMC people with valuable homes in TX are certainly getting burned. So are UMC people in states where the property + income taxes exceed $10K. That's a lot of doctors, lawyers, and accountants in Red States.
Like said, everyone is getting sticker shock. 98% of people would prefer to have the proper withholdings throughout the year, instead of having to cut a big check in April. It was a fake tax cut.
