OP I'd call the dealer to ask if/when they followed up and what documents they can give you before you go to the DMV.

No, I didn't keep the old plates. I left them at the dealership to toss. New vehicle has temporary plates with a new current registration.
Any document attesting to the fact that the dealer said they’d toss them?
