Subject: Brother in law adopting 2 girls to even out his family
You know, this is your subjective perception of why he wants to adopt. I really hate when people make these kinds of assumptions about adoptive parents.
He may really want two more children. So he wants two girls? Are they not allowed to have a preference, like any other parents? You know only a tiny bit of their adoption story. And you've decided that they are some sort of designer family. "Oh, I think I'll get a couple of girls today while I'm out shopping."
So insensitive.

Why the disgust, folks? It's not like he and his wife are aborting babies once they find out they're boys. So they have a gender preference. Who cares? Giving a good home to a baby is a good thing.

The responses are mind boggling. In every thread about abortion, there are always responses about how the women should carry to term and put the baby up for adoption. They go on about how families are desperate for children and they’re giving a family the most precious gift, and on and on. Here’s a family who wants to adopt 2 children, and DCUM says things like gross and they feel sorry for those children, as though not being adopted and staying in foster care (or possibly an overseas orphanage) is a better option. WTF?

I don't really understand what the question is. He wants two more kids and he is requesting girls. Lots of people specify the sex of a child when they decide to adopt.

OP, does your BIL seem to enjoy children? Would the children be joining a happy, functional family?
Sometimes women have very difficult pregnancies, or difficulty getting pregnant, and want more children. I had severe morning sickness and after three boys, we considered trying to adopt a girl. We eventually decided three was enough, but I'm wondering now if that would have been frowned on.

Very true. Wayyyy too many children are trafficked to unsuspecting people desparate for a family. International adoptions are now a nightmare. Heck in India, girls are practically disposed of.

How is it different than any person or couple who plan a family of a particular size and spacing of years? What about the families that who have two of one sex and go for a 3rd, hoping for the opposite?

Sure, but it will be pricy as some agencies charge more for girls. I think its unfair to the kids as its not about the kids but what they perceive as status.
