A lot of the teams I’ve seen with the most thorough stretching routines didn’t touch a ball during warmups other than to shoot, then went on to send long balls for 90 minutes

Our club (FPYC) is very professional about this, but I put that to the coach, not the club.

FIFA 11+ warm up or something similar should be done by kids as often as possible. 15 minutes before each game or practice goes a long way to help kids with their long term athletic development...i.e. strength, coordination, balance, agility, spacial awareness, physical literacy, etc. Lord knows they are getting it in PE.

Agreed with Dynamic warmups as stated above. The days of doing 20mins of stretches went bye bye along with short polyester shorts.

Most coaches do dynamic warmups that may not look like traditional warmups since many of them are integrated into the practice.

I've seem most do this these days.

it's google-able. it is backed up by research to help prevent injuries.

Depends on the club. At ours, the kids stretch regularly, including with bands. At showcases, they are definitely stretching before and after matches. Both hydration and stretching are key to injury prevention. Even if your club doesn't do it, your kid can. Get there early and knock it out.

We are a yeah whatever club as well. Sad. Warm up and cool down/stretching is very very important. I talk with my son about warming up on his own before every practice. I mean it's injury prevention. I don't understand why teams/clubs don't require these either.

We're new to the area and we've been kind of surprised how weak the pre-practice and pre-game stretching routines are with our club. It's basically non-existent. Our previous club followed the Fifa 11+ guidelines with some modifications but made it a point to have a coach-supervised stretching session at the start of every workout or game. Here they just say 'warm up' and kids kick a ball around. Our team also is pretty spartan with the water breaks. Maybe one or two over 90 minutes, whereas where we used to live (hot climate) we had them every 10-15 minutes during a session (or kids not participating in a drill were told to drink while the session continued).

Is your team professional about stretching or is it sort of 'yeah whatever'
