I learned this the hard way last week - always get the loss damage waiver. Don't know how much I will have to pay or how much insurance will cover. But they WILL notice, so report to the rental car company when you return it, and report a claim with your insurance if you have to. My car insurance won't cover it but my credit card may.

C’mon, OP. You have choices in life. Those choices come with responsibility and consequence. You are responsible for what you do in this rental that you chose to drive. It’s probabably not that big a deal to them, but they aren’t going to ignore it. I don’t know what they will charge, but I’m sure it’s nominal.

I’m fully aware of that and expected to pay for it. I just didn’t have an option for whatever other insurance was available since I myself am not paying for the car.

Your car insurance probably covers it but it's also probably not even worth reporting if it's just some paint.

The rental company definitely won't ignore it though.

Should I call them? Just bring the car in? It’s right by my house but I’m not getting my car back until next Monday.

Don't stress too much. I cracked a windshield in a rental car and didn't have insurance cover it. It didn't cost nearly as much as I imagined it would.

Just return it and tell them it wasn’t you. Airport rental?

Also, they won’t ignore it.

Maybe see how much it is to fix it out of pocket.

This morning, I was trying to refill the car with gas to return it. Huge truck was awkwardly parked in the area so I had to back into the space. Unfortunately, I missed a stone trash can and scrapped some paint (about 2.5 inches long by one inch wide) off the back rear bumper. Feel like I’m going to be out a lot of money. No idea if I should report or hope they ignore it. Finances are so tight right now. I can’t catch a break.
