I'm actually thinking of switching to a team that practices at an unlit field so that they have to be done by a certain hour.

Ugh. We will be U15 next year, but my kid will only be an 8th grader/still only 13 next September. Those times are way too late for us. Anything ending after 8.30 at the latest will suck.

In a perfect world--between 6-8pm.

But, because I work from home and my middle school kids are home at 3pm. I'm fine with 5pm. The late practices are sh*t because they have to be up by 6:30am. 9/9:30pm is too late for an end time because they shower, need to eat again and it's way after 10pm. On non-soccer nights (12 and 13 years old), they are asleep by 8:30pm.

I'm like you. I'd find the last two slots to be disruptive of family dynamics.


I’m concerned with lack is enough sleep for growing kids, and on school nights.

I agree and birth year change makes it worse for kids with late bdays.

My kid won’t even be 14 as a U14 this year. He just turned 13 in December. He won’t be in HS for the 8-9:30 U-15 practice. He’ll be in 8th grade getting the bus at 6:50 am at a time when he needs the most sleep since he hasn’t had growth spurt/puberty yet.

Our team has kids that drive from 30 minutes- 1 hour away so the late times are particularly bad.

Next year, he will get the 8-9:30pm slot. They don’t get off the field until 9:45pm and then it’s a 35 minute drive home. Shower, snack and it’s way too late. We need to pick something closer next year.


It’s the by-product of having too many teams in a Club. Late practices and 4:15pm for younger kids that don’t even get off the bus until 4:05pm.

DC had travel practice from 8-9:30 in high school. The oldest kids got the latest practices. It was fine. Even the high school varsity team practiced from 7:30-9:00 a couple days a week.
