Have your husband reach out to his primary care through the app and ask the SA referral- it was very quick for us! It took about a week for my referral from my Kaiser OB to get processed, but you can always call SGF and schedule your apt and tell them that you are waiting on your referral. When I called in Nov it was about a 3-4 week wait for the inital consultation. SGF also has some other blood work they want you to do. For what its worth, the saline sonogram is $300 with SG and free if you do it at Kaiser (scheduling is just tough), I had to wait a cycle. Also, Kaiser covered the Counsyl test 100% that we both had done at SGF. SG will also ask you to have an antral follicle count done, which Kaiser will not do. The trigger shot was about $95 and femara was ~$30, progesterone $0 at the Kaiser pharmacy. Hope this helps!

That's going to depend on the specific plan offered by your employer or other source of insurance as well as state-specific requirements. In Maryland IVF must be covered at 50%. My Kaiser plan covers 50% of testing, IUIs, IVFs and meds.

I had my husband reach out to his primary doctor to request it (even before the consult with our Kaiser OBGYN to discuss all the tests that would be needed). In addition, we avoided the 50% cost of the test and he was able to get the test done within a week of the request.

In my plan (federal) Kaiser covered 50% for IUI at SG.

I think we had our OB/GYN appointment at Kaiser at the beginning of March (also the beginning of my cycle) got all of our testing done that month, and the referral to Shady Grove came pretty fast after that was done (maybe because my OB felt sorry for us because my AMH was so low...) then had our first appointment with the RE at the beginning of April. Getting that first appointment at Shady Grove in Rockville did not take long. Then with Shady Grove it did take time to get started with treatment. Shady Grove had us do some additional testing, including genetic testing first for me then my husband, then it took time to get the follow up appointment scheduled, ended up starting our first IUI cycle in June, so two months after our first RE appointment. Overall I found Kaiser to be pretty organized, Shady Grove a little less so (especially with billing), but I am pregnant now so overall pretty happy.

I wanted to add that the SA took forever to schedule at Kaiser, over a month. We opted to pay the $150 OOP and got it done more quickly at Shady Grove.

The referral from Kaiser was super quick once the tests and HSG were done, as my OB was very efficient. The time to schedule at Shady Grove will depend on how busy your RE is. Once you see your RE at Shady Grove they will come up with a treatment plan. And once Kaiser authorizes your cycle you're good to go. So it can proceed quite quickly.

This forum has been incredibly informative and has helped to ease a lot of anxiety during a nerve-wracking time. We have Kaiser and we're just starting down the path of trying to get a referral to Shady Grove. I just got my day 3 bloodwork done and I have a HSG scheduled for next week. I know my husband will need to get bloodwork and a SA done. How long did it take for the referral after all of that is completed? And once we get the referral, how long does it take to schedule an appointment with Shady Grove? What's the process once you get to Shady Grove and how long before you could actually start IUI or IVF? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!
