That seems so far apart if you end up dating. Is this widely done — dating someone who doesn’t live or work pretty close by?

The bar at Ruth's Chris Steak House on Route 7 would work. It's spacious and open, drinks and appetizers are pretty good.

Sea Pearl in Mosaic.

Ok, so I haven’t dated in awhile but my friends never seem to have a first date as dinner. Usually they do coffee or drinks is this not normal? Really, just curious what is common now.

And second the suggestion of Mosaic lots to do.

Eddie V’s if you want pseudo-classy. Shake Shack if want to keep it real, they are by each other.
There’s also the movie theater a short walk away from them in the mall if want to catch a movie too.

Also, Jammin Java right down the street if want to do something different but not hear yourselves.

Cafe Deluxe would be a safe bet.

The bar at Wildfire would work too.

Or like others have said, Mosaic may be a good option too.

Founding Farmers is incredibly loud. I can’t hear myself think in there, much less the person I’m sitting next to. I’d avoid.

Tyson’s does not have great options for this, IMO. Earl’s is fun but it’s huge and loud. Also super busy during happy hour. Chef Geoff’s service has sucked the last few times we went there for happy hour - short on help, long waits for drinks. The drinks at Eddie V’s are not well made - skip if you enjoy cocktails. Tried Greenhouse for happy hour recently and we were the only folks there on a Thurs evening at 5:30. I hear they get busy on Fri and Sat tho. They have nice couches if you don’t want to sit at the bar.

Maybe consider Clarity in Vienna. It’s a small space but warmly lit and the bar is next to the open kitchen. We like to see what the chefs are cooking. The bartenders make good drinks and they don’t hover.

I’d opt for mosaic area restaurants and bars over Tysons mall.

You could also do something in Merrifield, lots of restaurants around there

Forgot to add, it’s a pretty nice space. Lots of comfy leather seating

Go to Urban space on the third floor of Tyson’s Galleria. Grab a bite to eat and lots of places to sit and chat. Also, if he is nut you are in a public place. Oh, and tons of parking.

Meeting a guy from an app Friday at 6. We need a midway point between Herndon and Alexandria and I guess Tyson’s is the best option but I never go there. Ideas?
