TV person here.

Actually, the new models were all released at CES two weeks ago. So, there are great deals on last year's models. I would definitely buy now. There will be another rush of sales right before the Super Bowl (which are when the most TVs are sold).

At the minimum, buy a 4K. This will be the new base standard.

As for OLED, the difference is primarily that the shades of black that you can see are very distinct. Most TVs can give you that kind of picture. If you can afford the OLED and you'll be watching lots of movies, I'd try to swing it.

Is oled a scam? They look real nice.

Does anyone have a Sony x900f? It was gorgeous in the store.

What size are you looking for?

Look at the TCL Roku TVs on Amazon. Just swapped all 3 in my house with various sizes. They are great for their price point.

TVs are commodities right now. They are all high-quality, cheap and there is there is no reason to wait for the next model. Most people don't use the extra features on a TV anyway.

What size op? There are some great pre-Super Bowl deals right now.

Get 4K, a smart tv and a reputable brand.

I think your TV refresh cycle should be less than 15 years and your budget is easily double what you need. TVs have come down in price considerably.

Most tech sites recommend a Summer to late Fall purchase as you'll get that year's model at a discount. If you are willing to get a 2018 than you should be shopping now as retailers are clearing shelf space. Check some of the tech review sites to see if the new bells and whistles in 2019 models are worth it.

Get a deal on a 2018 model. How much difference between the 2018 and 2019 can there be?

Buying a new TV for the first time in almost 15 years. Budget is $800-1200. Should we buy something now, or wait until the new models come out in a few months? We would then either get something new or hope for steep discounts on the 2018 models.
