DH is considering a job offer in a flyover state. This is EXACTLY what worries me. OP, I'll probably be you in a few months. I'm also of random mixed race and don't look 100% white, which is perfectly fine here. Given the demographics of where we are headed, I'll stick out immensely there.

I'm giving myself a year of feeling lonely but I think I'll be able to find my tribe. I know it takes time. Best wishes!!

DC is a special place. There's so much I took for granted living here that was a shock to me even when I moved to fairly urban place like Seattle. But like apparently there are large swaths of the country with no black people! I had no idea. Insane. Happy I moved back and prefer the problems here over problems elsewhere.

NP. I'm going on year 3 in a new city and still haven't found my people. And I still dislike this place. Job searching back in DC.

OP how old are your kids? By middle school, this mom pack stuff wears off. Over time you'll meet some normal people. When we moved out of DC into the outer burbs in the DMV I was terrified that we made a terrible mistake. The first people I met were these vapid cliquey moms that were nothing like my co-workers and friends in DC. Over time, I ended up meeting more working moms and people who were normal including a few SAHMs that were normal. The normal people aren't hanging around the ones that you find annoying because they would find them annoying too.

Are you in a very small town or a suburb of a larger city in a fly over city? What ethnicity or race are you? You could try searching around for community groups or political groups that are more diverse as a possible way to meet more people.

Recently relocated with my family to a suburb in a flyover state. My DH and kids love it, me not so much at all. There is zero diversity both racially and economically. I am of a different race and background than everyone around me. I’ve never felt out of place in DC, but do here. Everyone is extremely wealthy or at least pretending to me. The majority of the moms stay at home and socialize via their kids. I’m still working and traveling back and forth to DC, socializing with SAHMs women is difficult. Just ranting I guess. I took the day off to attend a school function and literally 9 out of the 10 moms here has a Moncler jacket and Louis Vuitton Bag. There isn’t even any fashion diversity!
