If you are willing to make the hike, the MD Science Museum in Baltimore has a planetarium with several shows daily that are geared specifically towards children. The planetarium is included in the price of admission.

Air & Space Museum has a Big Bird space show (still probably too much for an 18 month old but you could try it.)

My 15-month-old son is obsessed with stars and the moon. He's constantly pointing and announcing their presence in books and in the night sky, and everywhere else he sees a crescent or a star shape, and always wants me to turn on the little star projector in his room.

Is there a planetarium experience in or near D.C. where I could take him? I'm not concerned about him being afraid of noises in a dark theater, but he will be shouting "STARS!!! MOON!!!" nonstop so it needs to be a venue where that would not be inappropriate.
