I am sorry that you have not experienced truly incredible wine.

I don't even like wine! But certain wines are exceptional. They are also extremely expensive, and need to be kept in the right conditions. Some of them don't travel well, either. One branch of my family owns a vineyard in France. You won't find those in stores here. They have tastings and auctions over there.

Different people like different things. Some people think filet mignon is gross and hits dogs rock, others prefer the filet. Some like lobster, others prefer Snickers and Diet Coke. That’s ok.

Objectively, there is a difference in taste between a $10 grocery store bottle and a well-aged Bordeaux. OP even acknowledges that there is a difference. Not everyone will like the Bordeaux, but if you do it’s worth the price.

Me? I can definitely appreciate the Bordeaux, but will also happily stock my cabinet with $10-20 bottles for everyday drinking. And while I’m not a huge fan of Diet Coke, I’ll eat either hot dogs or filet mignon with my wine.

There’s a huge difference. I agree you don’t have to spend a fortune, but a $10 bottle of wine is going to pretty much suck. And you’ll pay about $40 for that same bottle in a restaurant btw. If you move up to $20-$30 you’ll fare a lot better.

Wine needs to be kept under the right conditions or it will go bad. That’s probably what happened with your old wine.
