The Hyundai Kona is nice, as is the Kia Niro.

sorry, why? you mean for ski gear?

Once you start putting ski gear, suitcases, groceries, kids gear, its much easier to have a medium sized SUV. I am getting a larger one from my medium soon as kids get bigger and the space is helpful.

ah, okay. I don't have kids, but thanks! (yes, I'm one of the weirdo childfree people here).

in any case, do you have a specific make/model you suggest?

You are like me. I'm going to choose between Mazda cx3, Crosstrek and Honda HR-V.
I really need it to be small for driving and parking in DC. I don't even want to buy Honda CR-V just for the 2 longer trips we take a year.
I did not like Rav4. I don't like to sit up high. Haven't driven the other ones yet.

RAV4. You can get a new base model for just about 25k out the door, or a slightly used nicer one.

The Hyundai Kona is getting great press. They're coming out with an EV but that will be out of your price range... the gas version and the EV won SUV of the year this week.

Honda CRV might be within your budget (get a slightly older model). Consumer Reports rates compact SUVs.

I'm hoping my current car keeps going and going and I don't have to replace it.

I only use my SUV for groceries and to the gym (typically drive 15 miles/week or so), although sometimes we take it for longer distances (for instance, we're going skiing this weekend and we'll need the truck for ski gear).

I know DH wants to get something nice, but he already has a nice car. This really would be for me for the limited driving I do. Would prefer to pay cash and not have a car note unless someone offers me 0-1.5% financing. Don't want to pay for than 25K and preferably a smallish SUV.
