Nope. You are all good. You may not have benefited from having another person in the car but no ticket or fine in your future

I’ll look into the website as well — and I guess order a new transponder...

Wait? You have a regular EZ Pass and it was active? You already paid the toll.
I have no idea how it works if you have multiple people in your car and no EZ pass flex (like would they credit you) but if you had the EZ pass in your car you paid the toll and are fine. It just might have been 30 depending on traffic although the furlough has helped keep the price down.

I don’t drive on 66 but I have the HOV transponder and in other areas you can switch it to the HOV mode only if you have 3 or more people in your car. If you have less than 3, it should be on regular mode - like your regular EZ-pass. So if you don’t regularly drive with 3 people or more you don’t need a new transponder.

Again, not sure about HOV rules on 66.

On 66, it’s HOV-2. You’re supposed to switch the EZ Pass Flex to “3+ passengers” when you have 2 or more people in the car, but only on 66. It’s still 3+ on 95 and 495. I hope they printed something else on the newer transponders. It’s confusing.

OP, you’ll have to pay the toll.

I used EZ lane once and totally forgot that i was driving a different car- the one w/ no transponder in it. Call them right away and tell them your situation. There is a $1.50 fine but if you wait for the ticket it will be way more than that. You can also go online tollsinva.com I think and put in your plates. It won’t be there right away. I think it takes like 7 bus days to load but there is an option to leave payt info and they will charge you the toll + $1.50 when it gets in. GL!

One time I was on 66 and a truck full of straw a few cars ahead of me caught fire, causing a 6 mile backup. That’s what happens on 66.

It appears that you have a regular EZ-Pass. You won't get a ticket. You will be charged whatever the going rate was when you got on the highway (assuming (again) that you were traveling inside the Beltway). It's been higher than $45 in the past, but it fluctuates based on traffic conditions. If you drove when there wasn't too much traffic, it shouldn't be too bad.

This is from an article in WaPo the week after the 66 tolls started. You will most likely receive a bill in the mail at the address connected to the license pate.

What happens if you use the Express Lanes without an E-ZPass?

About 14 percent of express lanes users last week did not have a transponder and face a fine. If you are one of those commuters, you can visit 66expresslanes.org, select "missed a toll," and enter your license plate to pay online. VDOT officials said the transaction should be posted within three days of your trip and can be paid within six days.

If you don't pay online, you will receive a bill in the mail, including a penalty for not having an E-ZPass. For more information about how to get an E-ZPass transponder, visit ezpassva.com.

I take 66 occasionally on weekends, but tonight I happened to go on it during rush hour and only remembered that there’s a new (ok, relatively new... ok, I guess it’s not that new) system with a special EZ-pass and fluctuating tolls and etc. once I was on it. I was with a friend, so HOV compliant, but I don’t have a special EZ-pass... am I in trouble? Are there cameras that send tickets to everyone without the special EZ-pass or am I ok if I wasn’t driving alone?
