This is why I can never get into West Wing, despite many attempts. I just lose too much in the back and forth. It wasn’t bothersome to me in GG, because it was mostly just fun funny banter so if you missed bits, it really didn’t matter.
To me, Scandal speeches were long and drawn out and added added emphasis on every syllable of every word. Drove me nuts.

The style of dialogue is based on screwball comedies of the 1930s & 40s. I’m a huge fan of the Thin Man movies, and the speech patterns are very similar.

GG is the one I find least believable.

It’s like they’re thinking of witty retorts before the other person has even started (let alone finished) speaking.

I don’t recall every single character doing it like on Scandal, but it’s extremely irritating.

Veep and Mrs. Maisel too. They sound smarter and can pile more jokes per minute.

I think it's irritating.

watch some old episodes of Newhart instead to counterbalance it.

I felt that way about Gilmore girls. It seemed so unnatural.

This is how I feel about Kevin Smith movies. Not natural.

I don't watch a lot of shows, but have noticed that the dialog is getting too fast on recent shows. It's so different from past TV shows that had pacing between lines. I can't get into the Goldbergs because it's just so many lines back and forth in rapid response. I can't even have it on in the background because the cadence becomes annoying and distracting. It's almost like they are trying to squeeze in as many witty lines as they can? This is not how normal people talk. There are pauses for thoughts to be formed.

I first noticed it in shows like New Girl, but The Goldbergs is over the top. You can't even keep track of what is being said.
