OP I took a total break about 6 months ago. Nothing could be more liberating and nothing gives you perspective like distance. Do it.

Make the standing offer to your dad and then take a break from your dysfunctional family. Wishing you peace.

I'm at my wits end trying to deal with a dysfunctional family (not my Dad). I've tried financially helping. I've tried helping with decision-making. I end up being the bad guy every time. It's both consuming and destroying me. I want out for a while. My folks are not 100% helpless and they all function in a dysfunctional way. Soon enough, someone will fall, etc, and the state will step in and at that point I'll re-engage because I'll have more power to help with the necessary decision-making.

I still plan to call to speak with my father, and would love if he decided to come live with my family. It would be best for him at this point.
