Fan of suburbs. Prefer North suburbs - Evanston to Glencoe mostly for beach access and great schools! Each town is somewhat different more/less urban and densely populated. Good luck.

We relocated from Silver Spring to Oak Park a few years ago. It has been a great spot for us - close to Chicago, easy/direct 20 min train ride for commute, very good schools, and a very friendly community vibe. Just like anywhere - there are all kinds of personalities and family styles. Good park district, sports programs, shopping in the city and malls a little farther out in the suburbs. 800 - 1mil will get you a very nice home - just be aware of the taxes!!

Whats the public transportation like in Evanston?

The north shore suburbs are as good as it gets. Each town/city has its own business district and “flavor.” Some are liberal (Evanston, Glencoe) and some are more conservative (Lake Forest). The schools in that area are generally really strong.

The structure is different. Most of the suburbs are their own distinct municipalities with their own police/fire, school districts, downtown cores, etc. and unique characteristics and vibes. It’s not like Bethesda which is really just a gigantic unincorporated area. There are dozens and dozens of Chicago suburbs - like I said, each with distinct characteristics - so it’s impossible to answer your questions unless we know which specific suburbs you’re referring.

Which Chicago suburbs are you looking at?

?? We are considering moving because of job relocation. Would be looking in areas with houses around 800-1 mil. Are the chicago suburbs as wealthy? More liberal or conservative than this area? More diverse or less? As many nice shopping areas or more? Crime in wealthy suburbs? Country clubs? More residential segregation(racial and economic) or less? Snobbiness? Schools(good/bad)? Are most people transplants or locals? Are there a lot of sidewalks/walkability in most suburban areas? Looking for answers relative to MoCo. Thanks so much!!
