St. Peter’s episcopal in Arlington also might be worth taking a look at. Possible it would feel more traditional to you but it is a really wonderful community as a family. I grew up there and now am bringing my family now that we moved back to the area recently. Really wonderful inter-generational community atmosphere

What does social justice mean, all churches do that?

She wanted social justice oriented. That's a conservative split from the Episcopal Church.

And it just happens to do a lot of outreach good work. How about that! http://restorationarlington.org/ministries/outreach/

Columbia Baptist. I realize the term Baptist is intimidating (grew up Presbyterian myself) but they are moderate and focused on families. We have an active food pantry in the seven corners area (serves approx 250 families a week) and a large ministry in Haiti. Informal dress - check. Contemporary service is at 9:45 am and almost all young families.

St. George’s Episcopal in Arlington. Strong kids activities, especially a music, program, no one minds a chatty child, dress as you please, and on the very liberal end of the Episcopal Church.

Emmaus United Church of Christ in Vienna has a really strong social justice focus.

There's probably a church that fits the bill closer to you, but Commonwealth Baptist in Alexandria is fantastic.

Mount Olivet Methodist in Arlington. Many families (and has a popular preschool), offers both a traditional and contemporary service. Lots of focus on community service.

Post 01/06/2019 17:54     Subject: NOVA - child-friendly, social justice oriented Protestant church?

We have recently moved to NOVA (near N Arlington/Falls Church/ McLean). We are looking for a very child friendly (we have a child in early elementary school) and social justice oriented Protestant church.

In the past, we have attended Methodist and Episcopal churches. We'd also love the church to be somewhat informal in dress and we are happy with contemporary or more traditional music. We'd be open to an evening service if the morning services were more traditional. Can anyone recommend any churches we should consider? TIA!
