We were terribly bit up in the Abacos too.

Took our 3yo and 5yo last Christmas and none of us were bitten .... we did get a few mosquito bites but not many (over the course of 9 days). The water and beach were really beautiful....keep in mind that there is not a ton to do, though! Very nice people, a couple of pretty good restaurants... we rented a house with a pool and an amazing view.

^^^With that said, I still enjoyed my trip immensely and would go back in a heartbeat.

I absolutely love the Out Islands of the Bahamas. I was bit by little black flies you could see. They were definitely not no seeums. And this was during a very windy week over Thanksgiving. I think the wind helped keep mosquitos away, but the little black biting flies were persistent.

If you aren't set on Eleuthera, check out Harbour Island (just a quick boat road over). We were just there and didn't have any no-see-um problems.

Those of you with houses, how do you fly down affordably? Or maybe it’s not a major concern since you are well off enough to have houses
We went down a few years ago and would love to return with kids but flights have been crazy. We took an American flight that stopped in Miami and then to Eleuthera. They discontinued that. Any insight into the best way to get to the out islands?

We have a house in Bahamas. Pick an island with some trade winds and it’s a total non issue.

We went three years ago for spring break and did not have any issues. You can look at Spanish Wells or Harbour Island on eleuthera, too. It requires another quick ferry ride.

So I was researching islands to visit. No specific time of year in mind just yet but I was really liking Eleuthera. I figured we could take the kids to Atlantis for a couple of days and then rent house on Eleuthera. The pink sand beaches sounded awesome, some waves on the Atlantic side for enjoyment, caves and interesting swimming spots, nice snorkeling and in most cases right in front of your very own house, beautiful turquoise water ...some say the most beautiful in the Caribbean, fishing, boating, golf carting around, no crowds, and a few little towns with dining out options. Then I started seeing some chatter about the biting, annoying no-see-ums. Like mosquitoes some are bothered more than others. Three of the four in our family are liked by mosquitoes so I presume we will attract the no-see-ums too. Has anyone been to Eleuthera lately and had issues with no-see-ems? Where else in the Caribbean could we go that has everything I described minus the no-see-ums and or mosquitoes?
