Unfortunately, it's true. A kid at my DC's school told his ssat scores to his friends and they all laughed together. He got in a Big 3. Legacy and money have opened the way for him. He may go to Georgetown University in a few years.

The exam really should be age normed instead of grade normed-esp with all of the “reclassifying” that goes on in private school. A kid with a summer birthday old for the grade compared with a kid who went on time with a spring bday is bound to show some differences..

Incorrect. 5th takes middle level and 8th takes upper level.

And the percentages are all scaled against other 5th graders, not older students. Apples to apples.

I wouldn't brush it off so easily . Based on experience, low math and reading scores can be pretty good indicators that something is holding your child back or that the child might struggle in some schools.

My child had low ssat scores and got in all top 3 and everywhere they applied. Breathe. It’s not everything. Honest honest honest. I was you 1 year ago. I wish someone had helped me realize it’s just a small piece.

OP again, this is also for 6th grade entry.

We are not full pay and applied to some tough schools. 1 big 3. Sigh. The stress, and I’m not usually this parent.

My kid has rock bottom SSATs (I really mean it). We have been told by several schools that it's just not that important. We are not shooting for top, top because that wouldn't be the right environment, but decent schools. We have been repeatedly told by our middle school that ti will be ok since she has straight As and very solid recs. Take the test and make the best effort and then let the cards fall where they may. I'm choosing to believe the many people in admissions that have told me it is ok. (We are full pay, so I suspect the check book helps, but it can't be everything.)

The SSAT is a b*tch.

Kid did a practice test and got 97 out of 150 questions wrong. I am now freaking out. I couldn’t afford the prep classes. All of her recs were great along with straight As on report cards. Too late to back out of the whole process?
