For me clomid was a pretty miserable experience. I was very fortunate and the month after I stopped Clomid, prior to getting an IUI I got pregnant with my child.

I got the HSG, did everything in the book. My only piece of advice is to not do more than 4-6 cycles. Very little chance of success after that if it hasn't worked already.

I am on my first month of clomid 50mg. This is after getting pregnant easily twice and trying for over a year with no success. Turns out I was only ovulating about 50% of the time. The only side effect I had was pretty extreme angry feelings.

Please share your experiences.

First child: I forget the dose (50?). I’d been off birth control 6 months and wasn’t ovulating. I wasn’t monitored and didn’t have side effects. Got pregnant with a singleton my first month of clomid.

Second child: tried with one doctor then switched care to my current ob. I’d tried to conceive over a year and was having regular periods (unlike with first child). The first doctor said it was probably pcos but I didn’t have any symptoms (regular periods, normal bloodwork, no cysts...) and got really defensive when I asked questions. I wasn’t comfortable trying metformin with her. My 2nd doctor had me try 2 more months of clomid and then recommended IVF. While I was waiting for IVF (as I’ve written here before) I got HSG done, got a promotion at work, and did acupuncture. I wasn’t taking clomid during these months. I naturally conceived while off drugs and waiting for first IVF appointment after about 15 months of actively (timed) trying and longer not using protection. I was 34 when the first was born and 38 with my second.

Op here. Yes I may have pcos. I actually just started with a fertility doc and that seems to be what she is thinking. Waiting for a new cycle to start to start testing/doing an hsg etc...I'm on another round of clomid and don't think I ovulated this cycle. She definitely wants to try something else after this cycle depending upon what she sees and it will be monitored next time.

I'm just happy to have a plan. As I felt like I was getting nowhere for months.

3. Did not. I have diminished ovarian reserve and am 40. the Clomid resulted in 3 follicles in one of the cycles and 2 in another and 1 in each of the other two. It did not seem to thin my uterine lining so that wasn't an issue for me.

5. No pregnancies. Moving onto DE when the time is right.

3. Not from clomid, or the 4 cycles of Letrozole we switched to afterward. Eventually resorted to IVF/FET and conceived DD

OP, are you seeing an RE, or being monitored at all? I say this because I, and several other women I know, all over-responded to Clomid. Fortunately, all but one of us were being monitored, and the issues were caught.

My OB had me try several courses of Clomid and it really didn’t work for me. I ended up going to an RE for more help and he instantly he diagnosed the PCOS, and put me on Metformin. I’ve been pregnant four times and one or two of those was with Clomid?? The RE generally felt like the pros and cons of clomid are close to a wash and tries to avoid it if possible. So it triggers more eggs, but then makes a less hospitable environment for implantation..

2. 50mg
3. Had two follicles developing, only one fully matured, and not until day 30 of cycle- I had to go in every other day for bloodwork and ultrasound for weeks! It was awful.
4. Hot flashes, nausea. I then had suicidal thoughts and severe depression with the progesterone I took after, so I stopped it and the pregnancy stuck so it was fine.
5. Singleton! My problem is lack of ovulation/very long cycles. So the delayed ovulation even with cloned was “normal.” This was after a year of trying for a second baby, but only really having 3 cycles to work off of- it was hard to get timing right because I wasn’t really ovulating. So clomid and monitoring was perfect for me (and probably you too!)

3. Yes- I had one follicle which developed fairly late and dr. seemed to think that success was unlikely but I did get pregnant (for the first time).

The above is what happened when I got pregnant with my first child, after almost a year of trying. I was 32-33 at the time and generally was not cycling/ovulating on my own.

I subsequently got pregnant and had another child without any sort of assistance.

1. One cycle (monitored IUI)
2. 100 mg days 3-7
3. Did not get pregnant from this cycle, only had one follicle with Clomid, goal was two follicles (I ovulate naturally)
4. Thinned uterine lining (4 mm before ovulation), suicidal thoughts

I have diminished ovarian reserve, which may have impacted my response to Clomid.
