Oh, I was confused by the first post about going back after the New Year.

But anyway, cleaning, decluttering, sleeping, dropping off and picking up kids from activities.

Cleaning out our basement and guest room and taking things to Goodwill. Also finishing some projects around the house and spending time with my kids. I am not as chill as others seem to be about this, so I have a fair amount of anxiety and anger about it. I’m trying to enjoy the time off instead of stressing about the financial uncertainty, but it is difficult.

We moved recently, so will be unpacking and organizing in between chasing my one year old around. Will also hopefully get to do some neglected errands, like getting the oil changed and updating my driver's license (move was out of state so need to do it in person).

Taking online classes and studying for a professional certification so when I go back to work, I'll be more productive and more likely to get a promotion.

Relaxing, hitting the gym everyday, packing up stuff to go to goodwill, deep cleaning, scheduling appointments. As other posters have mentioned, it won’t really feel furlough’ish until the holidays have concluded. I think 1/2 is when we will feel it.

On leave as planned as well. Haven't even started thinking about if it stretches past Jan 2, when I would be back to work, I'm just hoping not. If it does last a while, I might try checking out day cares in the areas we're thinking about buying a house, or doing that major decluttering, reorganizing, and Goodwill dropoff I've put off....

Pretty much the same here. Although based on experience from the 2013 shutdown, there will also be a fair amount of obsessively checking the news, as well as binge-watching some shows.

I'm cleaning up the mess that is Christmas! I'm actually thankful for time off even if it is unpaid. I wasn't able to take off this year from work and was scheduled to work through the holidays.

I'd really like to go visit my family, but that would involve plane tickets. I have a newborn and they haven't seen the baby since she was born and otherwise I don't have any leave because of maternity leave.

Watching our kids, like I was planning to do anyway. They go back to school 1/2, and even if I am still furloughed, it doesn’t matter to me as I have jury duty for 2 weeks starting 1/2 and would not have been back to work. So I will do that civic duty as planned.

I, too, need to do some decluttering. I also recently received a box full of old family papers that I need to sort through.

Hah! I thought this post was going to be about how are you cutting your spending during the furlough. I read the title too quickly.
