I totally agree, OP. We used to take DS when he was an infant but as soon as he refused to sit in the cart we stopped taking him. DH would go, and I would stay home with D. He's now 7 and I take him sometimes on off times, but definitely NOT on a weekend like this. I want him to get the experience and practice for how to behave in public places like that, but super crowded times are not the right time for that. I'm always confused when I see full families shopping during busy times and everyone looks miserable.

Same here, on occasion. I would never intentionally take the whole family grocery shopping!

DS needed a last minute gift for a friend, so we opted to go to target and do grocery shopping at the same time. We all went because I like being able to hand off DS responsibility back and forth (he’s 4) so that the other person can wander/browse for a few minutes. It was an enjoyable morning.

We enjoy providing entertainment for the other shoppers.

We’re out doing something else and stop by the grocery on the way home.

We do it because both of us like to browse food options for holidays. Get some inspiration. So just handing off a list doesn’t work well.

Kids too young to stay home alone.

Was at Wegmans today (which is a total disaster) and so many families shopping! Why do people do this? Why not have one parent stay home with the out of control kids and the other go to the store? People like to make life as terrible as possible. Ha ha. Merry Christmas!
