And how do you define that? The parents have have chosen to “disclose” tons of information to this practice that is all protected by HIPAA. Unless they have signed a form saying they understand that these pictures will not be held in the same confidence, I don’t think you can assume that they have given permission for anything.

You mean the staff who already know who the patients are?

What’s the plan for keeping it that way? The staff are going to lock it in a file cabinet in their office every night? That doesn’t sound like a “gift” to me.

I'd make sure they aren't going to post it on the wall in the practice.

But if they aren't, you could probably do something in between like email them a quick shot of your kid, and in the email say "Larlo says his favorite part of OT is the big swing!" and let them do it. Just say "So sorry -- all out of printer paper, but here's a picture of Larlo. If you could print it, that would be great."

Or just skip it. It irritates me when they give you homework on a week like this. If you're going to ask for something like this, give me like a month.

+1. You will not be the only one who doesn't do it.

It's a violation of confidentiality. Frankly if they actually are preferred providers for my insurance I would do it as an act of gratitude, but if you are paying big bucks OOP for this BS forget it. Our overpriced practice tried this thing and very few people complied. The gift is we are paying you a small fortune. Now when we had someone who took insurance I did anything and gave her gift cards for holidays. She worked hard and it is such a blessing when they take insurance.

My kid also has three therapies weekly. Yeah that is way too much work for me! I got my OT therapist a box of chocolates from Aldi's.

They sent one of those gome, and I ignored it.

It would take me under 15 min. I’d be fine with it and do it. I also wouldn’t stress if I couldn’t.

I would be annoyed by this, frankly. This is homework for parents and it's self-applause for them. Two things that piss me off.

I send a holiday card to my children's long term therapists. (Not two months).

It’s optional. Probably 20% of the parents will do it. You can just have your kid make a card. It is really not a big deal and the therapist doesn’t care. I’m a pediatric PT.

I've never heard of such a thing and my kid has been in a variety of therapies for years. If they want to do that maybe in their office where they print out the template and help you fill it out. But if you want to opt out they should be understanding.

I take my kid to three therapy appointments weekly. I’ve also been finalizing his IEP placement (so it’s been months of public and private evaluations). He sees the OT 1x weekly for 45 min and been seeing her for about 2 months. Last week their practice emailed us and asked as tonorint our a template that said “my favorite part of going to OT is...” and they want us to:
- print out the template
-fill it out with DS
- take a photo of DS holding the sign
- email the photo back to them

They will make it his an Xmas present for the staff.
While I think it is an AWESOME present, I just don’t have the bandwidth for this. Don’t you think it is a bit much? My kid is still missing the family pic for his daycare bc when I sent it in it was the wrong size and I haven’t had time to get the right paper to reprint it. Is it terrible if I just opt out of this?
