To be fair, some periods of history had more going on than other times, and also had more of an effect, for varying reasons, on what was to follow. So some periods will tend to get more attention from historians and storytellers than others.

^^^ of course, there are historical inaccuracies in that. But I think there are in most of the movies made about historical events. They're shifted, characters conflated, in order to do a compelling story in under 2 hours.

I suspect that it's more possible to do something more historically accurate in a miniseries than a feature film because there's more opportunity to build the characters and weave together all of the subtle undercurrents and subplots that were going on.

Sorta.

Reign actually had amazing costumes and an awesome soundtrack. Search Reign soundtrack on YouTube---it's fabulous.

Plus, the characters were well developed.

Sure it's basically historical fan fiction, but at least it was entertaining.

Newsflash: not everyone can carry a big film like that...Saoirse really isn't all that.

I'm really surprised that it even made it to theaters...hasn't this been done before like 10x already? Aren't there enough Mary movies already?

Probably better as an HBO or Showtime miniseries (like what they did with The Tudors)?

Loved The Favourite.

What about Saroise Ronan? I love her acting and was thinking about seeing this. I have plans to see The Favourite today.
