Agree. You need a designated spot or just start teleworking. It doesn't sound structured anyways.

I actually wish we had hoteling at my office. We have people who only come in once a week and yet they monopolize outside/corner/large offices. Don't ask me why.

Yep,that's what they do in our office. Staff that expected to work in the office most of the time have permanent desks, the rest is up for grabs.
Oh, and permanent cubes have name tags on them, so there are no questions those seats are taken.

I still hate hoteling though

can't you book in advance?

tip - put a meeting notice on your calendar to reserve you space for X days out so you always get the same spot.

Yeah - i know it sucks to have to do that daily. But a 1 minute task daily will reduce your daily stress.

Also - find a spot that is not in demand so you will get less people booking - or thinking they are booking that space. Near some internal administrative team typically works for me.

Let me preface this by saying I completely understand the logic of this system - I work for a firm where a number of people are only in the office once or twice a week, if that, as they’re on client sites, so it’s pointless giving them a permanent desk. I, however, am required to be in the office every day, and am I absolutely hate it! Aside from having to haul all my crap around every day, I constantly deal with the following types of situations:

1) Show up to work - someone is in my reserved seat. Have to ask them to move which they frequently object to.
2) Show up to work - someone’s belongings are in my reserved seat yet they are nowhere to be found. Have to go find another seat.
3) Am in my reserved seat - someone arrives and tells me I’m in their seat. After some back and forth, the person realizes they are on the wrong floor/let their booking expire/forgot to book in the first place.
4) Reserve a seat and am told to move because ‘it’s my normal seat’ or ‘my entire team sits here’

It makes me so angry! Just give me a damn desk and stop wasting my time with this.
