While I think you are correct that enrollment is not down much and won't drop in the future, I don't see how the state of Michigan is going to pay (huge financial settlements) for the mistakes of Michigan State without decreasing monetary support for the school.
Penn State only had a one year drop and then applications went up again. That might be a better comparison than UVA in that the administrations of Penn State and Michigan State are implicated to some degree. With UVA, I think the administration was caught by surprise, but not implicated in any wrongdoing (although a couple of extremist alums were involved in the planning). USC is having some scandals as well and I don't think it has impacted them at all.

MSU just had to take out a $600 million bond to pay off assault survivors, hence this year they have the "biggest and most diverse class ever." They are hard up for the revenue to pay off that bond and its vig. Big U's run by incestuous backwater idiots need to pay the hard way for mismanagement -- starve them of applicants. Go to Delaware. Beautiful campus and more interesting kids.

Thanks. That was my post. You can tell I spent some time in the Midwest since I managed to say nice things about both schools. I will retire there.

Enrollment may not be down but applications are down 8.3% from Fall 2017 to Fall 2018. When you get 30,000 plus applications it is easy to find 8,400 to enroll.
The true indicator will if the stats for the incoming classes begins to drop as they have to lower their standards to meet the enrollment numbers.

They're both ok. Neither one stands out above the other.
MSU's business school is decent for undergrads. The two kids I know who chose MSU decided they want to do supply chain management; good school for that.
