I don’t live in VA so I don’t have a recommendation, but you will need an MD to prescribe medication. I highly recommend working with a psychiatrist even if you can’t find one that takes insurance because they have so much more experience than a pediatrician. The wait time can also be awhile. And many will do their own assessment for ADHD based on taking a history from parents and patients. But if you need school accomodations, you will need a more recent neuropsych report also. (So I would tackle both of these simultaneously.)

She does. I think she works with kids aged 8+, although this puts it a bit higher:

Hello, I recently posted in the tween/teen forum. My son was diagnosed with ADHD in early elementary school through a comprehensive evaluation the Childrens' Medical Center neuropsychology department. He never required medication or official (iep, 504)accommodations and did amazing in elementary school in an advanced academic program. He is now in middle school and struggling with organization and focus with so many classes. I'm talking about forgotten assignments, has no clue tests when tests are coming up, hard time focusing in certain classes, etc. It is time for a new evaluation to explore with professionals what our options are to help him continue to succeed. I reached out to Children's but the wait is 9 months! That is too much for us. Could someone recommend a comprehensive center that specializes in children neuropsychology that evaluated and treats ADHD (possible medications)? Ideally it would be in Northern VA since Children's was a bit far for us.
