I would also suggest not using the nylon/polyester laces that come with most shoes (Aka cheap). I would invest in cotton/fabric laces. My daughter also loved the rabbit ear method as taught by my husband. I learned the other way with one loop. I have to remember to use the rabbit ear method when my daughter is watching me. I don't want to confuse her.

DS's fancy barefoot shoes come with lock laces. They're perfectly acceptable.

+2 Younger DS is in 7th grade and still uses Lock Laces (so do I!). They're fabulous!

+3 14 yr old DS loves Lock Laces.

This might help.... when you first start to tie to set up the loop, do it a second time. This helps the laces to stay tight. Then make the loop and finish.

DS has used lock laces for YEARS! They really helped us avoid all the frustration and tears that came from not being able to tie his shoes properly. and they look pretty cool - lots of athletes use them. So there's not that embarrassing stigma related to having "weird looking shoelaces" .

Double, triple, quadruple ties. At that age my son went for quantity over quality. He’d tie as many ties as he could get out of the laces. That kept them from coming undone.

Not an answer to the laces issue but I bought my 9 year old zip up Converse high tops - she also had a hard time tying tightly. I think some laces are harder to tie tightly - the flat cotton ones seem to stay better than the round nylon feeling ones.

New poster here. My daughter's shoe laces are always undone. However, she insists on shoes that tie. I doubt she would like the lock laces. Even when I tie them for her in the morning they still come undone!

I started doing it again after he tripped over them and ended up with a huge bruise on his chest. He does tie them, he just does such a poor job, that they don't stay. He gets frustrated when I try to show him to do it tighter, I think because of his fine motor issues.

Stop doing them in the mornings. He will be forced to do them when they come undone during the day = practice --> getting better at it.

My 9 year old gets so frustrated (but won't practice with me) with his shoe laces. He ties them in a loose knot and they come undone very fast. Anyone have any suggestions. I do them in the mornings just so they are not untied all day.
