You'll see more overweight bearded 40 somethings at a Phish show than an anime convention, and that's saying something.

I went to a Phish show and thought they sound different than Slayer.

We are come to outlive brain.

I know a couple who divorced because he wanted to follow Phish around in a camper instead of working his 9 to 5.

Obviously music taste is subjective and no one is wrong! I love The Phishes! I totally get it if they're not your jam. But it should be easy to understand why their fan base is so devoted.

Think of your favorite band. They're great. Now imagine that when they tour, instead of playing a rotation of about 20 songs, pretty much the same list of songs at each show, they play about 200 different songs, most of which you love. This means you can go see them over and over and see something different every time.

And not only that, on the nights when It's Happening, they basically come up with a great new song on the fly.

And - each show being unique and including something new you've never heard before - each show is published as a live album - minutes after the show ends.

Trey is a generational musician. But what makes the band great, in my opinion, is his generous spirit.

And just to make this more applicable to the current forum - my 3.5 year old loves to dance to Phish music. They Rokk!

I only go to shows to see Mike in his trendy outfits. His bass playing however, is subpar.

Interesting discussion. I tried to see them this summer but the weather in upstate NY was incredibly rainy.

I laminated my tickets. But it ruined them so I decided not to go. Anyone know how Curveball went?

Actually, it's been 35 years. The band formed in 1983.

I'm not sure what a "post 40something" is. Is that someone who is 50 and over? If so, I'm 51 so that's me.

That said and asked...I guess they're good if you like noodling and jamming over half formed songs. I'll take Wilco over Phish any day of the week.

I saw them on the HORDE tour in the 90s. Eh. Never bought a record.

Oh god, don't feel sorry for them. I tried so hard to love Phish. I bought their CDs, I went to their concerts. I thought they were awful.
