I think that is because Reagan had a formal military parade which went through downtown and was a traffic nightmare. I don't think Bush is having the big parade.

I was working in a DCPS charter school in 2007 when Ford passed away. We were to return from Winter Break in January 2 but schools were closed. I’m thinking that we will be in school on Wednesday since nothing has been mentioned yet.

That is absolutely not true. I've been teaching a long time and we've never gotten a day off for the passing of any president.

I was teaching in a charter school in Petworth when Ford died. Our school was supposed to return from winter break on January 2nd, but they gave us the day off instead as soon as that day was declared a National Day of Mourning.

DCPS undoubtedly will, and I would guess most DC privates will as well (for logistics/traffic as much as for anything else). Outside of the District, probably not.
