I would try Dr. Abbasi at Columbia as well or Dr. Levens at Shady Grove. Both have helped friends with different situations figure out what’s going on.

I have a similar problem and I'm at Dominion and see Dr. K Waud who recommended trying the meds vaginally which decreased the side effects.

Look into Dr Check at the Cooper Institute in NJ. I’m a few years out from my own fertility journey, but as I recall he had a reputation as a bit of a “mad scientist” and may be helpful for your unique situation.

I have an underlying anxiety disorder and just can not afford to go on them).

My endocrinologist suggested trying traditional fertility to see if they can trigger ovulation in another way. The traditional and highly successful way to do this is with the aforementioned medications, but those are off the table for me. I’m looking for a reproductive endocrinologist who will be companionate and willing to think outside the box with me a bit.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I’m in MD, and I know the default is Shady Grove fertility, but I’d love a recommendation.

Thank you!

Most REs use Ovidrel to trigger ovulation. Can you just do that?

I have no idea. I was extremely lucky in that the first go round my issue was solved with a pill. This time I don’t seem to be able to tolerate that pill anymore, so I’m hoping the doctor has some ideas. I’ll look into Ovidrel.

Additionally, the team at SGFC was nice in person, but once you walked out of the room, you were just a number and a case file of which they had many. We often called the clinic with questions and people would call back who clearly had no idea about of case or situation and would roll off a generic answer even if you phrased it that the generic answer wasn't the answer to your specific question. And they would refer you to the web-site rather than actually discuss anything with the RE. We had 3 appointments with Dr. Stillman and the 2nd and 3rd time it was clear that he did not remember us and didn't look in the file for his notes because he often repeated the same information, despite saying that he would find an answer to our questions and have a staff member call us back, it never happened and calling the staff and asking them to ask him resulted in the same generic answers that were not answers to our questions (but that he promised to get the correct answer). Lather, rinse, repeat. And we saw different nurses and staff each time, so very few remembered us or anything about us.

When we went to VCRM, the same receptionist always greeted us. The same nursing staff worked with us. We asked questions of Dr. Sharara. If we forgot and we called back, the same staff who was with us at our clinic appointments answered the phone, greeted us, recognized us, took information and spoke with Dr. Sharara. Either the staff or Dr. Sharara himself called us back within 1-3 days and we had our answers. Sometimes we got a call back saying that they knew we had a question, they were still researching the answer but would get back to us soon. And they did.

A completely different feel. In Shady Grove, we were a widget on an assembly line. At VCRM, we were patients at at clinic who were human beings.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response. I had one brief encounter with SG fertility when I was first diagnosed with my prolactinoma in 2012. The doctor was fine, and his take home message was basically that I was in the wrong place - needed a regular endo, not reproductive endocrinologist. But in the meeting he still managed to give us the speil on how the clock was ticking, my husband’s sperm was not going to be good much longer, etc. I was 30 and he was 34. I’m not ruling out SG, but I’m worried with my less traditional issue, I won’t be given the time of personalized attention to help me solve the issue.

Thanks again!
