I feel awkward around people who are achieving a lot for the greater good because I admire them so. High net worth not so much? Just people with money.

It can be a bit awkward if the people are not sensitive. For instance, we had several friends over and they were discussing their family adventures through Europe last summer. I get why they talked about it, I enjoyed hearing about their trips, but it felt weird for me because I couldn’t really contribute- we did a staycation to save money.

It depends on the person. Some high net worth people are incredibly nice, some are not. But that's no different then with any income break. If a high net worth person takes pleasure in subtly rubbing it in my face then I do feel awkward. But they are the exception based on my experience.

This. We live in a mediocre house in a great neighborhood. We drive typical cars for our neighborhood. We dress typical for the neighborhood. We are wealthy but you’d never know it.

How would u know their NW? Don’t judge a book by its cover - some could be up to their ears in debt and vice versa. Easiest is to imagine they are all naked!?

Some rich people are awkward, some are not. Same with poor people, and middle class people.

Also, "elephant in the room" and "white elephant" are different idioms.

I find it awkward to be around very wealthy people. I find its hard to relate to them and the gap in our socioeconomic status becomes a white elephant.
