I personally wouldn't mind my spouse doing that sometimes but all the time and not checking in with me would be a problem. Go get the tree without him...if you can. This sounds like a situation that needs more communication.

Child is from my first marriage. I think I’ll get the tree myself if he doesn’t get back until 3 or 4. That still gives him a chance to run some errands and get back at a decent hour.

And yes, he is gone every Saturday all day whether it’s seeing friends or family or just driving around.

What's the big deal? He always takes Saturday to run his errands and maybe just relax for a bit. I do the same thing on Fridays. Sunday would be the better day to mess with a Christmas tree anyway.

Full disclaimer. We are dangerously close to getting divorced. We just do not communicate well. I told him last week that this weekend I would like to set up the Christmas tree. Every Saturday he finds a reason to be gone all day long. He leaves in the morning and comes back around 7 or later. During that time I run errands, clean, you know the usual grown up stuff. I carry some resentment that he doesn’t participate in any of these activities, I admit. He had to work yesterday so I asked him to set up the tree today. He wants to participate in this, he loves Christmas. But he doesn’t want to give up his day of roaming around. He got up at 9:30 this morning made breakfast and took his time eating it. Finally around 10:45 he said he was leaving. I asked when he was going to be back. He said he has a bunch of errands to run (none of which HAVE to be done today). He probably won’t be back until 6. Am I right to be irritated? It’s one day I asked him to not be gone all day and gave him plenty of notice.
