I never say that, but team MIL if that's what you're cooking tomorrow. It's fine to have that IN ADDITION TO the traditional turkey dinner, but if there aren't some of the standards, you suck.

NP here. I totally disagree. You cook, you get to decide what to serve. The standards are boring anyway.

Don't host Thanksgiving if you don't want to host Thanksgiving. Especially if you know that people will be disappointed, as surely OP knows her MIL will be.

My mother in law is wonderful. Heavy hand with the wine, and only 5 of us this year. No vent

Mine said they were skipping thanksgiving this year, then they weren’t. Said they were coming over, then they weren’t, now they are again.

This year I have to spend both Thanksgiving and Christmas with my ILs. I need to grow a spine and tell my husband NO MORE.

No complaints from me. We quit spending any holidays with the in-laws 4 years ago! I’ve seen them once since then and the only thing I miss is the crazy stories I’d come back with.

My MIL died a few years ago from cancer, and her husband hates me because of some trivial disagreement that we had several years before that. I honestly for the life of me couldn't even tell you what it was. My MIL was very narrow-minded and provincial and just a very different person. My FIL is perennially grouchy especially now that she's gone and can't ever be happy with anything.

FIL put an entire head of butter lettuce, piece by piece, in our drain board. Like, draped it over the drain board. I quickly moved it to a colander, saying I wasn't sure when the last time we washed the drain board was.

He got offfeeeennnnndeeedddd.

My husband's aunt and cousin were supposed to arrive tonight, but decided not to come until tomorrow.

This is not a vent, this is a praise break. THANK YOU, AUNT EILEEN!

Rather than have several dozen threads by the end of the weekend, I'm starting this so that we can let it all out here. Vents, crazy in-laws, oneupmanship, bad food, bad cousins, give me all your in-law hate (it doesn't have to be hate, if you are annoyed and want to get it off your chest, put it here)!!
