Most B&N have a nonfiction area in their teen sections now. There is so much good teen nonfiction out there now.

Oh god no!

I would have him read Ron Chernow, David david Mccullough, Walter Issacson, Erik Larsen ( interesting reads about events)

On the politics side, what about Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984? (1984 might be too intense for a 13 year old.)

For war stories, there's All Quiet on the Western Front. It's a realistic portrayal of war and might be a little intense for the 13 year old.

Allen Drury's books are great political fiction. Advise and Consent is a classic. He did start writing them in the 1950's, and I remember them having a Conservative/Right slant.

Hmm, "historical based"? That's a new one to me. Bill O'Reilly may love history, but he is no historian, according to historians.

Among other things, "his book Killing Lincoln...was a mistake-ridden flop that offered nothing new to the historiography of Lincoln studies. Historians roundly criticized the book and Ford’s Theater–the very place where Lincoln was assassinated–refuses to carry it in their gift shop."

My sons love reading about history, both nonfiction and fiction. They also enjoy discussing watching political analysis and satire. I would appreciate some book recommendations for them. Thanks.
