IB Maury family here with a PreK kid who didn't get into Maury despite listing it as our #1 choice. We ended up at Miner and are very happy there. We turned down waitlist offers at both Appletree OK Avenue and Appletree Lincoln Park and are glad we did so. We love our child's teachers and overall experience and have met wonderful families as well. If commute is important I'd definitely prioritize that with the knowledge you'll be in Maury for K, and none of the schools you listed will deliver a "bad" PreK experience. Note that if you really want Maury then you still need to list it as your #1 choice. Otherwise there's no way you'll get in, even with IB preference.

Got it. So even with a preference, there's still no guarantee you'll be matched unless it's early action.

But only certain schools are early action schools, which guarantee that an inbounds student who lists the school among their PK lottery picks will either get in there or a school they ranked higher.

You won't get into Peabody out of boundary. Maury will require a bit of luck to get into for PK3 but is not impossible (my son's best buddy got in this year with no sibling preference).

SWS is well regarded, but you'd need a very good lottery number to get in. If you're interested in SWS, I'd put that first on the list and Maury second.

You might also look at Two Rivers, which has two campuses: 4th Street and Young. They might be pretty easy to access via public transit depending on your location.

If your number does not get you into Maury, it will not get you into SWS either.

1. Go to myschooldc.org

2. There are hundreds of threads on PK3 on Capitol Hill and nearby

3. Always list your IB because that is your best bet.

4. Go back to myschooldc.org once you've done open houses and identified your list for any new information.

5. Rank in your true order of preference.
