They didn't. This is a typical raised ranch and was built with the kitchen on the 2nd floor. Stupid, but the 70s were weird. It would require a complete gut of the house to reconfigure to put the kitchen on the first floor and bedrooms + appropriate bathrooms on the 2nd floor.

That house style is called a "raised ranch". It was a weird house type that was built for a short time in the 60s-early 70s. Lower level got rec room and bedrooms, main living area upstairs. Sort of an evolution from the split-foyer houses that had a short flight down to the rec room/bedroom and short flight up to living area. No idea why anyone thought it was a good idea but you see them come up for sale occasionally in inner suburbs.

We have our eyes on this place, it’s a decent size lot, pretty big house, but kind of weird layout.

We have seen older houses on busy roads sell for about this price not sure why it’s sitting?

Are we missing something? I feel like you can split one of the bedrooms and have 3 upstairs and have a pretty nice place?
