Authentic cornbread isn't sweet, though it does have a little sugar to tenderize the grain. I use white lily cornbread mix in the bag, not the box. Milk and eggs are all you add.

Homemade corn bread is one of the easiest recipes out there and making the batter takes as long as out of the box.

Corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder, egg, milk, oil. That's it. Mix. Pour in greased pan. Bake for 20 minutes. Done. So much better than out of the box. Google it.

Just be aware Jiffy has lard in it so if you're serving vegetarians you can give them a heads up or choose a different brand.

I've been buying Zatarain's honey cornbread lately-- uses a lot more butter than Jiffy.

If you want good corn bread, do not make it from a box

Trader Joes..but honestly I don't bother with a mix much as it is mostly cornmeal.

IMO, the only ones to avoid are any brands they sell at whole foods. They are all heavy, over salted, not sweet, not good.
