+1 What the Zuckerbergs did was great and did a lot to destigmatize miscarriage. A bunch of friends have also shared news about miscarriages on Facebook. And I have friends who speak openly about IVF/IUI etc. It's part of the deal if you want to try to have kids in your late thirties/early forties.

I am very open about it because I feel like it should be normalized and I don't mind being the person to share. When I did share about two dozen people on FB privately messaged me to tell me about their story. Some even shared about non IVF non miscarriage stuff like broken marriages. A little vulnerability goes a long way, but I get that some people are private.

If you don't start trying to have kids until your mid-30s, then you are going to have trouble no matter what race you are, that is the lesson here.

I am so happy she shared this information! Especially for African American women. African American women often hide infertility and would be ashamed to admit they had infertility issues. This is a huge reveal that I think will do so much for black women trying to have children and having the same struggles.

I was coming here to say just this. I have heard a couple people (not many) imply that we black women are more fertile, and that infertility is a white women's thing. Clearly it is not, as we see from Michelle Obama, Gabrielle Union, and others, and getting it more out in the open is important to do. I luckily didn't have issues myself, but have had friends confide that they had miscarriages or trouble conceiving.

This is why this forum exists.

This is really validating to hear for me. Both of my kids were conceived through IVF, and I did the 5 cycles + D&C from miscarriage + surgery living cross-country from DH. I often felt isolated and like i was making terrible decisions...but maybe what I did wasn't so unusual.

i am glad she shared but i would never do so myself.
