Like what? Curious. Not much shows from Wiki, that I can see. Didn't Sacha Baron Cohen quit because the story did not parallel real life enough? He would have been great!

He pulled out because of pretty significant creative differences between him and Queen, Brian May in particular. Here is SBC on Stern talking about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq-M4JA3fIU

It was long but brilliant. The casting was amazing and the recreation of musical numbers.

No one is going to ever match the physicality of the real Freddie Mercury or his performances, he was one of a kind.

And yes, there was much sadness, from the story itself - his loneliness and from the era of AIDS deaths - which I remember well. I lost a couple of my most amazing HS teachers at that time.

If you google “Bohemian Rhapsody facts” you’ll pull up a number of articles. There were quite a few events in the movie that were out of order or just plain didn’t happen then. The most egregious is when Freddie found out he was positive. That happened in ‘87. Not before Live Aid in ‘85. That was a ridiculous dramatization that didn’t need to happen.

They wanted to get a PG-13 rating, not an R -- hence the soft-pedaling on a lot of the partying details.

The rating had nothing to do with it. They didn’t need to alter facts such as when Freddie fired Paul Prenter.

No need to watch the movie; here's the five-minute version: https://youtu.be/015pfGh_uAY

I loved the music, the costumes, the glimpse into the life of Freddie Mercury and the band. Fun seeing Mike Meyers. The Live Aid scenes at the end were a complete joy. The fake teeth on Rami Malek were a bit much (no need for extreme close-ups when they stick out so much to begin with!), and in some scenes Rami Malek looked like an escapee from the set of Planet of the Apes. Rami is no Freddie, but then again nobody is. The movie could have been better but was still a fun time.

But for some reason, afterwards it has left me feeling really sad. Maybe it was the way the movie shaded the story to make him seem lonely. Maybe it's the utter tragedy of his too-early death, and the sad circumstances of life as a gay public figure back then, not to mention the devastation of AIDS and how scary that was. "Love of My Life" is so poignant that it tugged at my heartstrings during the movie and again all the next day or so.

I'm excited for "Rocketman"![/quote]

Wished they picked another title for that one!

I saw it last night. I had no idea how far under a rock I've lived. I grew up in the nineties so I completely missed the boat. Of course I'd heard of them, but I could only name four of their songs. I honestly thought that We Will Rock You was their biggest hit because they play it at every sporting event.

I don't think it was a great Oscar-worthy film, but it was definitely entertaining. I think the movie was good for someone like me, because it made me want to learn more about them and seek out their music. I've been listening to them all day.

I definitely felt a little sad in the theater. I talk for a living. I feed off of being in front of a crowd, but in my personal life I've always felt incredibly alone. I lost my own "Mary" once. I know what it feels like to latch on to the one person who makes you feel like you're accepted only to watch them go off with someone else.

It was a good movie. Definitely hit the right notes for me.

Regarding the teeth -- we watched a couple of documentaries about Queen (check YouTube, Queen fans) recently, and Freddie Mercury really did have a very prominent overbite, more prominent than I remembered from back in the day. So the prosthetic teeth I'm seeing used for Rami Malek in the ads look pretty accurate. Apparently Freddie did consider having his teeth fixed once Queen was making money, but decided against it because it might have altered the way he sang, according to one good documentary.

We're looking forward to the film despite the fact that most reviews were lukewarm at best. This film had at least two false starts and several different casting announcements before finally getting made, so I kind of want to see what was so important to the rest of Queen that they kept on plugging even despite the difficulties of getting the movie produced. (Ben Whishaw and Sasha Baron Cohen both were mentioned as Freddie over the years, and Baron Cohen actually got quite a way toward making the film before pulling out. But now I can't see anyone but Rami Malek doing that role.)

I loved it! I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. I liked A Star is Born but it didn't compare to Bohemian Rhapsody (in my opinion).

I can’t decide if I want to see it or not. Sometimes the dark side of being a celebrity is hard to watch (like A Star is Born). Your comment about being sad gives me pause since my brother died of aids in that period too.
