+1

Buy a second hand book from Amazon. Also, the online free resource has TONS of vocabulary list. This is actually a very good website.

I took Intro to Spanish in college and we had to watch these slightly hokey but ultimately useful videos. I even took an extra semester of Spanish because these videos helped me put the vocab together with the sentence structure in a meaningful way.

Spanish is a third language for my child and 1A was a good choice for sixth. She is now in 1B and is beginning to actually speak Spanish unprompted. She loved DuoLingo last year.

Is in the 6th grade and taking Spanish 1A over the entire year or Spanish 1 A/B over the year?

If 1A is over the whole year, take/retake Spanish 1 A/B next year, she will end up in the same place.

If she is taking 1 A/B this year, even if it doesn't go perfectly, push on to Spanish 2.

If there is still a problem after the first time through Spanish 2, that is a better time to retake Spanish 2 and lose a year.

I've been learning Spanish on my own and these children's songs from YouTube are what's worked the best for me. You can choose either Spanish or English subtitles. They're typically focused, so you can try to match up with her vocabulary (numbers, animals, colors, foods, etc.)

Thanks!

Quizlet is helpful for memorizing vocabulary. Watching YouTube videos or cartoons in Spanish is a fun way to reinforce vocab and pronunciation.
The way world languages are taught these days is very different from how I learned. I was very skeptical when DD was in level 1. I was surprised by the basic things she didn't seem to know. But now that she is in level 3, it does seem like she has learned quite a bit.
